Recently I had the unique privilege of welcoming over 860 guests to our signature gala – a celebration of Hispanic business success and community progress. Glancing around at the crowded ballroom I saw a ballroom charged with enterprising and determined Hispanic business owners, professionals, aspiring college Hispanic students and community leaders rubbing shoulders with the corporate elite and elected officials.

To me that crowd was the face of Milwaukee's robust Hispanic community.

Consider that in recent years, our community has increased its number of small business owners and college-educated professionals. We've improved our upward mobility within corporate sectors. And through our collective hard work every day, we are shaping this city, county and state

Although business is the business of the HCCW we recognize that higher education is the great equalizer and clearly the path to shaping mañana. We are proud that since 1993, the HCCW Education Fund has awarded $ 438,240 to 86 young adults entering or completing their undergraduate studies.

Although we face challenges, the future is bright and the path clear. We know that each generation is asked to answer the call of its own unique challenges, and I have no doubt that we will continue to answer the call and leave behind a better, stronger, more prosperous community than we inherited.

There is much more to accomplish. And not just here in Wisconsin. The face of America is undergoing a dramatic transformation and Hispanics, the nation’s largest minority population, are taking leading roles in this change. The Latino agenda IS the American agenda.

Poder ~ power~ is the capacity to translate intention into reality and to sustain it. We tip our sombreros to Hispanic and other small businesses for their passion and resilience during this difficult economic turmoil. The local business community needs and appreciates your support. Please help us to create positive momentum by patronizing local businesses.

Failure is simply not an option. Together we are the difference. ¡Si se puede! Yes we can!

    Adelante Juntos!

    Forward Together
