Hispanics are the fastest growing minority group, younger by a decade, with over $1 Trillion purchasing power. With this significant potential we shoulder a great responsibility. We must ensure that our young Hispanics have access to quality elementary, secondary AND post-secondary education.
Education is an issue of community well-being and we all have a stake in the academic success of our future leaders. Education is the key to unlocking social mobility and economic opportunity. We have a professional obligation to prepare our kids for college along with a moral responsibility to save them. Failure to do so is simply not an option! Properly equipping our youth on their educational journey will most assuredly touch their futures and that of all communities in a special way.
The HCCW Education Fund/Philip Arreola Scholarship Program has grown considerably since its 1993 inception. The objective and mission however, have remained steadfast-empowering Hispanic youth through higher education. Student after ambitious student has benefited from the efforts of our small non-profit business organization and that which our small independent scholarship program offers.
With little fanfare or attention, the Program has awarded $438,240 to 86 students thus far.
We are obviously proud of this achievement, yet we understand that ours is an on-going journey. With your support we continue to have a significant impact. We offer a heartfelt gracias to our generous donors and corporate supporters for taking this journey with us.
Our college-educated youth are the bright beacons for the future and are the most decisive hope for the future. We all have a stake in their academic success. We have an obligation to motivate them, to prepare them to seize the torch, to hold it higher and run farther than those of preceding generations. We must continue to invest in their potential, their aspirations and their upward mobility. We are all members of the same familia and we need each other. When we come together we can accomplish great things! There is a ripple effect when we join forces, communities are transformed!
We know how far we have come together but more importantly we realize that there is much, much more to accomplish. Our urban communities MUST have the added value that post secondary education provides- socially and economically. The future is bright, the path is clear and the opportunities are at hand. This is our time!
