| Outstanding achievement is rewarded in the form of college scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $1,000 to support the goals of Hispanic youth committed to academic excellence, extracurricular leadership and community service.
$1,000 Returning Student Scholarship
Returning student is defined as a Wisconsin resident who is currently accepted as a full-time or part-time* degree seeking student in an accredited Wisconsin University or College and has experienced a minimum of 1-year lapse in their undergraduate education.
* Part-time students must enroll in a minium of 6 credits per semester.
The awardee receives $1,000 in financial support for the 2013-2014 academic year. Scholarship award, applied to tuition only, is determined by the HCCW Education Fund/Philip Arreola Scholarship Committee after in-depth review of all applications received.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a legal resident or US citizen
- Must have a high school diploma or GED or accepted as a full-time student in an undergraduate program
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must demonstrate life experiences and/or community activities, participation in school and/or community activities.
Application Requirements
- A completed application
- A one page personal essay
- A copy of high school diploma, GED certificate or official college transcripts.
* Note: Prior Philip Arreola scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply.
$10,000 HCCW/Philip Arreola Scholarship
Awarded to a State of Wisconsin graduating high school senior who is enrolled as a 2013 first year undergraduate in an accredited Wisconsin University or College. Awardee receives $2,500 per year for a maximum of four years. Scholarship award, applied to tuition only, is determined by the HCCW Education Fund/Philip Arreola Scholarship Committee after in-depth review of all applications received. Semester renewal award is based on academic performance and the availability of funds.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a legal resident or US citizen
- Must be accepted and enrolled by start of semester as a full-time undergraduate
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Must demonstrate history of scholastic achievement and participation in school and/or community activities
* Finalists will be notified for interviews scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2013.
Application Requirements
- A completed application
- A personal essay
- Two letters of recommendation
- An official high school transcript
The HCCW must receive your completed application along with supporting materials, postmarked no later than Monday, April 1, 2013. All applicants will be notified of results via email.
Finalists will be notified for interviews scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2013.
